The Tulsa Area United Way, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and other local organizations, assists low income families with free preparation of their income tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
This program helps local residents who earn less than $54,000 a year to access tax credits for which they are eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and Education Credit.
The VITA program utilizes IRS-trained community volunteers to provide this free service to local residents.
VITA volunteers assisted more than 2,800 people in preparing and filing their 2014 income tax returns.
This valuable service needs volunteers now for the 2016 tax season.
Volunteers will receive free training that will enable them to provide this free tax help for low to moderate income families.
The training is offered both online and in the classroom.
VITA sites are open days, nights and some Saturdays so you can choose the schedule that works best for you!
