WLC and Reading Partners

Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit that works with Title I elementary schools to support students who are reading six months to two-and-a-half years below grade-level. Reading Partners recruit and trains community volunteers to deliver a highly effective, research-validated curriculum that has helped thousands of children master foundational reading skills.

What does it mean to be a Reading Partner?
Reading Partners donate one hour a week best suited to their schedule to serve as a reading buddy to a Kindergartner, 1st or 2nd grader who has fallen 6 months-2 ½ years behind in reading. The goal is to help children learn how to read so that they can begin reading to learn, which typically begins in 4th grade. Reading Partners offers an on-site coordinator who is in the Reading Partners classroom at all times to provide any help you need and is always available to work with you to accommodate your scheduling needs. They also offer a very specific and easy to follow curriculum, so if you can read, you can be a Reading Partner!

And, if you cannot be a weekly reading partner, there are other ways to get involved such as holding a book drive, serving as a substitute reading partner or team volunteering (where you and another volunteer take turns visiting with your assigned student).

There are several ways to get involved:

If you are interested in becoming involved with Reading Partners, but would like more information or can't make it to the Books and Bagels sessions, please choose the last option on the form below: "I am interested in Reading Partners, but please contact me regarding opportunities to get involved"
