Tulsa Area United Way (TAUW) mourns the loss of Don Walker, a dedicated leader, advocate, and friend whose unwavering commitment to community service left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
Don was a visionary leader during his time as TAUW’s Board Chair in 2010. We are grateful he served as Chair of our annual fundraiser in 2009. His passion for giving back to the community was evident in every endeavor he undertook. Under his guidance, TAUW saw tremendous impact through its mission to unite people and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities.

A banking pioneer with a 42-year career at Arvest Bank, Don’s leadership was instrumental in shaping the organization’s success. Starting as a loan officer hired by Walmart founder Sam Walton in 1978, Don rose through the ranks. He played a key role in forming the Arvest name and mission, overseeing its growth from a small Arkansas institution to a regional powerhouse.
Don’s impact on Tulsa and beyond cannot be overstated. His leadership, kindness, and dedication to the mission of Tulsa Area United Way inspire us to carry forward his legacy of service.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, at the Alumni House in Fayetteville from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
