Day of Caring Fosters Partnerships for Goodwill, Williams, Hilti

A first of its kind virtual Day of Caring in September 2020 had members of Williams’ human resources team conducting mock job interviews with students at Goodwill’s TulsaWORKS Career Academy.

That experience was so successful Williams is now partnering with Goodwill four times this year to conduct mock job interviews. Hilti is also joining the effort to prepare students for the workforce.

This is just one of the many ways Tulsa Area United Way’s partnerships are making a deep and lasting impact in our community. Learn more about Goodwill TulsaWORKS Career Academy below.

How is Goodwill TulsaWORKS Career Academy helping people find jobs?

TulsaWORKS Career Academy provides short term training which offers credentials in the following areas:

  • Digital skills, which includes Google IT and Microsoft training
  • Hospitality
  • Forklift operator
  • Unarmed private security

Who can apply and how?

Goodwill TulsaWORKS helps anyone who wants to work, obtain a credential and find not just a job, but a career.

Anyone 16 years and older who wants to work, can pass a drug test and does not have a criminal history is eligible to participate in the academy. Visit www.goodwilltulsa.org to enroll.

What do students learn from these mock job interviews?

The mock interviews connect students with working professionals who provide a clear, supportive, and objective voice. The volunteers give students feedback on their resume, how the student answered open-ended questions, their professional appearance and whether they nailed the interview or may need more practice.

Students are able to overcome the “scariest” part of the job search by going through the mock interview process, and this helps build the confidence they need to get hired.
